Maybe you should buy a tripod. There are very few photographers use tripods time, really, if you look at the pictures before the shots with a tripod. Perhaps less than 5% of the time, we can expect on the stand. The second lens, but if you shoot action, sports or wildlife, the goal is a win for our system.
Later, you can buy Tiltall a very good tripod for less than $ 120 if you really need.
D40 with 2 lenses would be the best option.
